Consuming Habits: Drugs in History and Anthropology

Jordan Goodman, Andrew Sherratt, Paul E. Lovejoy

Consumption & Culture in the 17th & 18th Centuries

Routledge, 1995

1

This is a book about the cultural history of drug abuse, a subject which has been largely unexplored in mainstream social history. Much is know about ”essentials” such as food and clothing, but less about non-essential, non-rational products. Peculiar substances under examination include tobacco, tea, coffee, opium, cocaine, betel and kola.
